Greetings from your Maidstone Lake Association!

The amazing weekend of weather followed by the Summer Solstice replete with the rare full "Strawberry" moon for all to enjoy!  While this only happens every 70 years, we appreciate your ongoing support each and every day of the year!  Thank-you for working to create a sustainable future by sharing common values. The place to which we all share is beautiful - but certainly it is the people that make it special.

As summer kicks into full gear - we want to make sure we pass along information and updates... so if you have anything you would like published - please let us know!  We had our second Directors meeting on June 13th and are excited to update you on several items:

Our MLA mailing address has changed.  Please note our new mailing address is 911 Maidstone Lake Road, Maidstone, VT 05905-4509.  Somehow we were the last to find out about his change -  so we apologize if any of you had something returned.

Recycling will happen every week during the same time trash is scheduled to be picked up from now until just after labor day.

Our Annual meeting & Picnic Day will be held on Saturday July 9th.  You do not have to be a member to attend. The Coffee Social begins at 8AM followed by the Annual Meeting at 9AM.  We have several guest speakers to address various water quality and grant programs for us to better manage our ecosystem. Around 1130 or so we will transition into our picnic! This year our picnic will be catered by Mike Holland and Lise Potter.  We will enjoy BBQ chicken, side salads, and Ice Cream for dessert!  We also have John's Archery coming over to offer hands on learning about archery.  Finally - we will unveil the Maidstone Lake Service Award plaque.  The MLA service award was created in 2014 to honor those who have significantly contributed to the lake community by consistently placing service above self.

There will be a $5 per person charge to offset some of the costs of this catered event, and thank-you in advance for your support of this event!  We will be getting tickets to all the Directors - but please indicate your plans by clicking on this link: bit.ly/MLA792016

There is also a printable sign-up form attached.

Again, membership not required to attend any of the activities on July 9th - come out and share your fish stories and meet some new folks. The Maidstone Lake History Book will be for sale on that day!

We are so fortunate to have our very own Boating Safety Course right here on Maidstone Lake!  Lin Mixer & Lee Stewart have graciously donated their time & talent over many years in training young and "seasoned" boaters alike in safe boating & regulations over the years!  This course will be offered this weekend - June 25-26th and be held at Gorham's.  Please sign up by contacting Lee Stewart at: leemarys@myfairpoint.net

The course hours are roughly:

Saturday: 8:00 am to Noon, and 1:00 to 4:00 pm

Sunday:  9:00 am to 10:00-10:30

Lake Wise Program:  Want to learn on ways to use best management practices on your property?  See the attached flyer for a Workshop that will be held on this Friday, June 24th at the Conte Refuge from 9-12:30.  See attachment for more details & sign-up.

Maidstone Lake History...Book!  The book will be on sale July 9th at the Day Use area. The cost of the publication is $35.  The book is 186 pages of color and some black & white photos along with the history of the lake & camps. Many of you have asked about shipping and we will get that information published - but it will likely be somewhere between $2-$4.  Pass the word to those who are not connected!  Thanks for the support!

Greeter Program: We will normally have a greeter at the boat launch on duty on Fridays from 12-6, Saturday, Sunday, & Monday from 9-5.  We have a total of 4 greeters that will cover these hours in support of the lake.  We are also looking for volunteers to perhaps cover the launch at other times that are needed based on traffic.  Please let Ken know if you can help out in that way. The other parts of this triad of programs is the Shoreline Monitoring program which helps us keep an eye out for anything abnormal along the shore and Lay Monitoring program that captures some quality measures of our water.  Ken will be reaching out to those that have volunteered in the past - but we always could use more volunteers so please email Ken if you can help. kenjim@comcast.net
